New games, new articles!

Friday, November 21st, 2014

With the gradual arrival of the new Pokemon ORAS games around the world over the next week, you can look forward to some new activity here on the Wynaut? Magazine. We’ll review the features that we would have liked to have seen – which made it in, which didn’t, and what else has changed. A general review may be posted too, and a few other ORAS and Hoenn-related articles will come about as well. You can also expect a new Pokemon Analysis line article to come out soon, later followed by the standard Name Rater and Fan Works articles as well. If you’d like to contribute to these, sign up to our forum!

Do also check out our Tumblr page, on which impressions on ORAS will be shared. Another neat addition for the BBS may also show up in a month or two, so stay tuned for that too.

We’re hoping you in America, Canada, Australia and the like are enjoying the games, and that you guys in Europe can hang in there for another week!

Gym Reviews: Kanto

Monday, November 4th, 2013

Hello, readers. My name’s Bill, and I’ve been running the operations of the construction company Brick ‘n’ Break for the last few years. And we’re the best of the best. Well, the best available anyways. The Leagues seem to think we’re the best, so that’s what counts.

You see, we’re the crew responsible for setting up those Gym puzzles you Trainers have to navigate to get to that Gym Leader. Not that we came up with the layout ideas. No, that’s up to those fickle Gym Leaders. But we work around their requests and make a new creation every few years or so for them, on request of the Leagues. And let me tell you, if you’re looking for a career in construction work, any work sanctioned by the League works out very well on the financial side. Maybe not so much in health cover, but those are the risks that come with the job!

This here’s my own personal recount on what we did for each of the Gyms, starting with the Kantonian Gyms. For a number of these I talk about two designs, as the Leagues request we perform maintenance and sometimes entire updates every so often if the Gym Leaders want something new. Some say that’s hardly cost effective, but there’s some reasons for that. An older Gym design gets around after a while, and trainers can just go look it up on the internet and walk straight in with a plan in place. And Gym Leaders hate that sort of thing.

Dear Diary: From Jessie, James, and Meowth

Hello, loyal readers of Wynaut?! So, I was searching the mighty Sinnoh region for some treasure, and I found something much, much better. Some diary entries from my heroes, Team Rocket! It’s only a day’s worth, but it was an amazing find nonetheless! I’ve posted the diary entries below… enjoy!

Downtime Updates

Tuesday, October 15th, 2013

A brief post here! Some of you may have noticed, if you looked up from your 3DS and copy of Pokemon X or Y (or both), that Wynaut? had some issues over the weekend. The exciting version of the explanation is that Wyatt, our mascot, had to defend the site from rival Wynaut armed with pirate gear and pointy sticks. The boring and unfortunately real reason is the server had some hardware problems, and there were some DNS (domain name system) propagation issues afterwards which is why for some people it took a couple days to get back up. (I told you it was the more boring version).

But it’s back up for now! This does mean the next article will be a bit later than usual, but it’ll be out by this weekend or thereabouts, depending on the part of the world you are in. There’ll also be a bit more potential downtime around the 21st, but that’s stuff we’re expecting that basically means newer and shinier and faster servers. Keep an eye out, and we’ll try to keep the mostly-weekly updates continuing!

People frequently make references to external things in their work, be it to stories they like, or in-jokes between themselves and friends about jellyfish. With the good people in Game Freak however, some of their references within Pokemon are to other games – and interestingly they’re often games they had made themselves.
