Lotad/Lombre/Ludicolo Works!

As before, we’re wrapping up the Lotad-related articles with a list of works made by fans! Think of it of a collection of cool stuff to be found on the internet for this line.

If you have any others you know of, then mention it in a comment, and we might add it into this post. And if you have made one yourself or want to create one, why not post one on the forum? Meanwhile, we’ll be working on more articles, including the next line to be examined in the Pokémon Analysis line of articles.

Lotad

By DrManiacal

This artist has a number of pieces of art of a variety of Pokémon, and Lotad is one of the examples that are worth checking out. The water around the little lilypad is nicely drawn too. Following the link also gives a video of the art being made!

By DicesukeInuzuka

http://dicesukeinuzuka.deviantart.com/art/Lotad-Pond-Commission-171553529

Lotad spirit? God lotad? Whatever it is, it’s got the attention of the rest. Nice background for the image, although maybe I wouldn’t have minded more detail on the lotad themselves though (despite how simple a design they might have). But it has nice warm colours in it.

By LafondaOnFire

http://lafondaonfire.deviantart.com/art/Lego-Lotad-290046103

It’s a lotad made out of Lego. That’s all the information you need to know.

A very nice piece of art of a Lotad. The image seems to pop out at you with the lilypad and petals, and the drawing of carp around it adds to it without taking away from the subject. This took a bit of digging to find out who the artist was – the source is actually an official Pokemon Trading Card! Maybe the art would distract the opponent from playing well. Trading cards do have a wide range of quality in their art, but they are not without their gems.

This is a piece of pottery, one of the more unique niches you see of Pokémon art. It makes Lotad look rather cute, and it’s a unique medium for Pokemon art as well. And the eyes get just the right level of derp in there too.

A rather nice setting for the Lotad here, in which it is surrounded by normal lilypads and flowers. It seems to be looking at you however – it’s probably a touch suspicious. Given it’s hiding in a large lake I suppose it has a lot to watch out for.

Pokemon Masters: Dark Decendants (Chapter 2)

By AceNamikaze

A chapter of an RSE trainer fic. It may be a little bit rough, but overall it isn’t bad. In this chapter there’s a sick Lotad encountered, and the author does a decent job at describing how an ill Lotad might act. Curiously, the story was abandoned, but then adopted for a chapter longer by another author (TearStainedUzumaki, link here). Passing down story ideas is not an unheard of concept in the world of fics however.

Lombre

By arkeis-pokemon

http://arkeis-pokemon.deviantart.com/art/Lombre-vs-Walrein-177482715

This is a nice representation of one of the stranger moves the Lotad line gets – Nature Power! It changes based on the location, so you can get stuff such as Stun Spore, Shadow Ball, Earthquake… and Tri Attack, a move which is pretty neat in the games alone, never mind the nice glowing representation in this artwork. Lombre has a nice action pose to match, but hopefully it’s enough to overcome its opponent! There’s a good use of lighting and shading in the image as well.

By Momogirl

http://momogirl.deviantart.com/art/Lombre-Flamenco-128309736

This is a crossover picture. The Lombre is posing as a character from the game series Punch-Out!! known as Flamenco, a boxer with a rose and a similar get up to what this Lombre is showing off. It’s a nice reference, and it does make one think what other Pokemon might represent other Punch-Out!! characters. It has some nice shading and a neat, slightly arrogant, expression in the eyes of the (mostly) humanoid Pokemon.

By 雨の日 (pixiv)

A sad Lombre sitting in the rain, despite the fact that rain powers up this line of Pokémon. Maybe that just makes the art piece even sadder, if one takes this as the Lombre being upset no matter how wonderful the weather may be for it. The expression of the Lombre is what I’d say is the highlight of the picture, and the paint strokes making up its skin colour and the grass underneath it seem to be well done. However the raindrops seem rather fat and large, as a complaint.

By Moonlight2095

http://moonlight2095.deviantart.com/art/Meeting-the-Spanish-Lombre-274498093

We strongly suggest following the link, because there’s a story also provided with the picture! A friendly depiction of a Spanish Lombre isn’t perhaps very surprising, but it is characterised well, and the writing does well to show how he acts as opposed to tell (as well as the Skitty he talks to). The ability to weave a story out of the picture is impressive and it does indicate that a picture can be worth many words in itself. As for the image itself, the Lombre has a nice poncho and pose, if perhaps a too-thick left arm. The background is fairly simplistic but it is not the focus of this art piece, after all.

Ludicolo

By DrManiacal

http://drmaniacal.deviantart.com/art/Ludicolo-310045499

Another image by this artist, and with good reason! Ludicolo has a good mid-dance pose there reminiscent of its official artwork, and has an amusing expression to match. It certainly seems to be enjoying itself in the rain there. Speaking of which, the rain effect is pretty neat too and the use of colours and light/shading compliments each other. Even the grassy background looks nice.

By xDCosmo

http://xdcosmo.deviantart.com/art/Ludicolo-Papercraft-260755065

Papercraft! One wonders how long it would have taken to have designed a template for a Pokemon like Ludicolo in the first place, given its hat and features like its spikey stalk and beak. The effort was worth it though. A good choice of colour of paper must have been used there, and the pose is rather similar to the Pokémon Colosseum/XD animation for the Pokemon. Sadly the creator sited time being an issue, as otherwise they would have made more, and with maracas. That would have been a fantastic touch.

By Ar-Bo

http://ar-bo.deviantart.com/art/Ludicolo-98552584

A winking and cute Ludicolo. It even appears to be giving a thumbs up there. A Pokémon that makes you think you are awesome must by proxy be awesome itself, right? Besides the maybe slightly-off colour change on the outer rim of the lilypad hat, the colouring and shading on this art is top notch. And it looks so fluffy. In a way, this piece does well in showing how weird this upbeat Pokemon really is.

By かみなりパンチ (pixiv)

http://www.pixiv.net/member_illust.php?mode=medium&illust_id=8144500

Did you know that Ludicolo can, among the many other moves it has access to, learn Thunderpunch? Because it can. That’s a neat if niche point to pick up on and use for a piece of art. The sparks and lines of electricity are a neat feature of this piece though, backed up by a rather angry-looking and plump Ludicolo. Hopefully nobody insulted it based on its weight. And hopefully your computer screen won’t get broken by the Ludicolo, too.

By ルンパッパ (pixiv)

http://www.pixiv.net/member_illust.php?mode=medium&illust_id=11506803

A whole bunch of mostly cute poses of a Ludicolo. There’s a lot of good work put into the expressions and body language of the subject in question, and the additions of hearts or music notes are nice small bits to accompany it being extra cute or dancing about with maracas, an object that surely should be a hold item implemented into the games. But perhaps the most amusing of the bunch is the bottom right. Ludicolo hiding in the water and staring like that, with a few bubbles of air around it, makes for a funny image. And maybe a frightening one if it’s stalking you…

By Kagemaru Himeno

This was a particularly hard image to track down its source, but it turned out that the source was a Pokémon trading card. The image here was merely cropped and given a small text field to be made into a banner, and such other trading card images can be often seen in forum sections for competitive team rates, with most people viewing these images not aware of where they came from! The Ludicolo does seem to be running like someone who is undercover. The way it’s holding its lilypad like a hat that may fall off is an interesting notion. Maybe it can use it as a Frisbee. Points for its attacks on the trading card being Mad Dance and Best Dance.

By spiffychicken

http://spiffychicken.deviantart.com/art/SS-Miror-B-and-Ludicolo-147964573

The centrepiece may be the man with the ‘fro (in a rather chibi-ised form), but he’s not worth much in battles without his Ludicolo buddies. The one on the left seems to have something close to an ‘awesome’ face going on, although it may be just eyeing off that hair and wondering what mysteries lie inside. They’re fairly cute, if a touch on the chubby side. Clearly Miror B needs to make them work out more with their dance moves. One of these images were a must – you can’t talk about art with Ludicolo without Miror B, the master of Ludi!

One of the problems with tumblr is that often the original artist of a picture can get very easily lost, and sadly it seems that this occurred with this image. (Have YOU seen this artist? Please contact authorities if found!) Even more so, as this is a pretty glorious picture. The dominating yellow glow works well for the image, giving a pretty happy atmosphere. Plus it matches Miror B’s Colosseum getup! It does seem a bit remarkable how wide some of those Ludicolo can open their beaks, but the Lotad in the middle of the line doesn’t seem very worried about the danger of being eaten by one.

The Bonds That Break

By Blueysicle

A fine fanfic that sadly seems to have been abandoned even given the apparently slow update schedule of the author. But it’s worth a look nonetheless. The story follows the events of the game Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, providing some what-ifs on what follows from those events and an expansion to various personalities of the characters. That (and interactions between the characters) is probably the strongest point of the story. A few chapters down the track Ludicolo feature with one of Miror B’s grunts in Folly, and a chapter later Miror B himself graces the tale, also partnered by the joyful Pokémon.

Do the Ludicolo

By ThinkPi

A cute poem about a Ludicolo dance, which the author declares is a fine way to liven up a party. They’ve probably got a point too. The pace is upbeat and so matches the theme well.

All of them!

Pokedex: Lotad (and subsequent entries)

By Birdboy

This writer went and undertook a mission to write out entries for all the Pokemon! (At the time of writing, he’s up to the 5th generation Pokémon). He offers a few paragraphs on each Pokémon, describing their physical appearance and then giving some information on how they act, sometimes coupled with a few interesting facts. They all seem to have some basis on the in-game Pokédex entries, but fleshed out like so they are more enjoyable to read than the original format. And they’re well written as well.

Professor Wormwood Reports

By Mutitus

Better yet however may be these reports, as they go in a different direction to Pokédex reports. Here, a Professor Wormwood character gives a fairly detailed description about the Pokemon, and how they might be handled by a human. He poses some rather interesting thoughts such as how one may classify a Ludicolo going by genes and speculating on their evolutions, while also making some light-hearted jokes along the way. There’s a lot of these entries which are certainly worth checking out.

Actually, it’s not Flamenco, it’s Don Flamenco… yeah. I feel like Snorlax could be King Hippo, Magikarp obviously Glass Joe, but beyond that… I don’t know!
