Fan Work Reviews: insaneintherain’s Jazz Covers

Sunday, March 29th, 2015

A while back we started this segment on Wynaut? by reviewing a fanmade manga featuring a cool Golduck in the DPPt story. This time around we have a more musical feature for these Fan Work Reviews. In these articles we’ll feature a piece of Pokémon-themed work (be it writing, art, music, a nuzlocke, or anything else creatively inclined) that we feel is worth more attention. If you know of any pieces of work that you feel would qualify, feel free to suggest it, or even join the forums to write up a review yourself! You can even suggest one of your own pieces of work… but note that we’d still need to agree that it’s worth showing off here.

insaneintherain is a Youtube member who makes covers for a variety of video game music, a large chunk of tune from the Pokémon franchise. He sticks to the jazz style, and impressively does all the music himself. And he’s not just playing one instrument or just using a computer program – he does it all himself.

And personally this sounds better than the original tune from the DPPt games.

The BBS Fandex – Now Live!

Sunday, February 22nd, 2015

We’re happy to announce a new branch to the BBS site! It is humbly called The Fandex, and can be visited here.

What is it?

The Fandex is a collection of fanworks – art, stories and anything else – of Pokemon. It’s all organised by Pokemon species names, so if you want to find all the art for Bulbasaur specifically, you can easily view just those! You will also be able to look at art for human characters (e.g. Gym Leaders). Anyone can view, and by registering to the forums you can upload any art.

Furthermore, the Fandex aims to properly credit the creators of the fanworks. That means that every file uploaded will both name who made it, and link to the source material. This is to help try and give proper credit to people who put time and effort into their creations, who don’t get acknowledge when their work is simply reblogged or worse yet plagiarised. This also allows you to check out more art by someone you’re impressed by.

You can read more about the Fandex and how to contribute here! Ask any questions here or in the forum section we have (open to guests!).

Fan Work Reviews: toufu’s Manga

Sunday, September 21st, 2014

A new segment we’re starting on Wynaut? is Fan Work Reviews! The general idea is that here we’ll feature a piece of Pokémon-themed work (be it writing, art, music, a nuzlocke, or anything else creatively inclined) that we feel is worth more attention. If you know of any pieces of work that you feel would qualify, feel free to suggest it, or even join the forums to write up a review yourself! You can even suggest one of your own pieces of work… but note that we’d still need to agree that it’s worth showing off here. Another word of warning is that there’ll be some criticism too within each review. Works here are definitely to be admired, but nothing is without flaws.

To start off our series is a piece of fanmade manga by a Japanese artist. While the downside is that all the text is in Japanese, it’s still something you can follow the general story of. And its art and general quirks are what set it apart and make it worthwhile to read.

The Shinx here feels you really ought to check it out. Our advice is to listen to the Shinx.

Spinarak/Ariados Works!

Monday, June 16th, 2014

As before, we end our articles on the Spinarak line with a collection of fanworks of the Pokémon! Although they’re not the most memorable of generation two Pokémon, there’s a wealth of art out there on the pair of Pokémon.

And don’t worry – nearly every artist got the number of legs right.

Follow the links to visit the source page for the work, and maybe see if any other works by the artists catch your interest too!

Pidove/Tranquill/Unfezant Works!

Thursday, December 19th, 2013

As before, we end our articles on the Pidove line with a collection of fanworks of the Pokémon! While Tranquill suffers from being the middle bird of the ever-present token Normal/Flying bird of a generation, we even managed to find a few nice pieces for you to enjoy of that stage. Meanwhile, given the two gendered forms of Unfezant, there was a lot to choose from for that Pokémon!

Follow the links to visit the source page for the work, and maybe see if any other works by the artists catch your interest too!

Gotta Snag’em All: The Making of the Snag Machine

Friday, September 27th, 2013

This is Scientist Richard for Team Snagem. I’ve been hired by the company to create some sort of “Snag Device”. Its purpose will be to steal Pokemon from other trainers, by changing a PokeBall into a SnagBall. This will be a huge technical undertaking. Since PokeBalls were invented by Kurt from Azalea Town, they’ve been designed to catch only wild Pokemon. I’ve decided to either create some sort of machine to convert PokeBalls, or  an entirely new ball. The latter option seems a much better one, as it’ll be much easier to do. I’ll just have to make a few modifications to a PokeBall, as opposed to making an entire machine. Here is a short catalogued analysis of my findings.

Lotad/Lombre/Ludicolo Works!

Monday, September 9th, 2013

As before, we’re wrapping up the Lotad-related articles with a list of works made by fans! Think of it of a collection of cool stuff to be found on the internet for this line.

If you have any others you know of, then mention it in a comment, and we might add it into this post. And if you have made one yourself or want to create one, why not post one on the forum? Meanwhile, we’ll be working on more articles, including the next line to be examined in the Pokémon Analysis line of articles.

Pokemon Olympics: A Recap!

Thursday, December 6th, 2012

The Pokemon world has just concluded its Pokeathlon Olympics, and what a week of leaping, running, swimming, teamwork and general bashing-up-each-other it was! Trainers came from all over the globe to duke it out against each other for that shiny gold medal. And let’s not take away from the silver medalists and those who netted shameful, shameful bronze either!

This year’s events went fairly smoothly, all things considered. The big four regions of Japan has a strong showing again, and Unova’s trainers this time performed better than the previous Olympics in the initial events giving themselves more time to recover from jetlag. The rangers of Fiore and Almia had a respectable showing as well, although some still hold that using Pokemon that they don’t actually own in a Pokeball was merely exploiting a loophole in current rules. Orre had a modest number of participants this year as Shadow Pokemon were no longer allowed due to the large number of injuries and broken javelins (an event that was also cancelled for the year, along with Dodgeball with Qwilfish), but a few medals were still taken out by the desert nation.

A small riot had broken out in Goldenrod (where many of the participants stayed in) when it was discovered the Game Corner had been replaced by Voltorb Flip, and the nearby National Park is now seeking damages from having hosted a few side events (both Tuesday’s and Thursday’s Bug-catching competition had to be cancelled), but otherwise it was a success all around, and one simply cannot wait for the next Olympics!

Below is a few of the highlights in events this year.
