Pokémon Places – Lost in Viridian Forest

Let’s talk of the place where the golden era of Pokémon started – Kanto. You’ve been to Viridian City and Pewter City, I suppose? Then you’ll know exactly how annoying Viridian Forest could get had you not trained your Pokémon. Have you perhaps tried to go back there… to get a Pikachu to beat Misty? Let’s rush back to Viridian City… oh the horror, we can’t go back into Mt. Moon again, that ledge is blocking your way! Anyway, let’s look deep into the world of the Very Damned Forest. Did I get that wrong? Fine, Viridian Forest.

Sometimes when I walk through Viridian Forest I feel very thankful that my Bulbasaur is a part Poison type, or else I’m sure he would have become Bulba-sauce. Much sorcery can be related to this Forest. Why does Poison Sting always sting with Poison? It does sting with poison, but it doesn’t always have to Poison, right? Why is the forest suddenly the most populated region in the world? Why is Pikachu always a secret agent on a mission? Can’t it hang out with its friends?

Pokémon to watch out for

The Pokémon you can expect to find here at daytime include Weedle, Kakuna, Beedril, Caterpie, Metapod, Buterfree, Pidgey, Pidgeotto (premature) and Pikachu. At night, you may expect a LOT of Hoothoot, some premature Noctowl and Pikachu. However, be warned: my friend spoke of a phantom species to exist there. Upon enquiry he called it “DON’T DREAM OF GOING THERE AT NIGHT!”, with a certain amount of strong emotion. He indirectly referred to this through his refusal to answer, so I am supposing the species will have a more official and shorter name upon their discovery. Please notify us if such a species do exist! If you’ve come here to train (though I don’t recommend this), then pick out the Kakuna and Metapod, they are mostly harmless and satisfactory.

On the bright side, if I evolve again, then I will have no trouble!

The map of Viridian Forest!

Always keep this map in handy, it’s the latest version! You’ll need it.

Let’s emphasize on certain points: it is big, but not so big. That’s why you should look for landmarks! Not the structural landmarks, I meant active landmarks. For example, if you keeping tripping and falling on Weedle, then I’m sure you are on that clearing near the top left side. Run north and you’ve got into that check-post you wanted to reach! If you are dog tired and want to just lay there and do nothing till eternity, then you are somewhere in the middle of the map. My sympathy is extended to you, there is nothing, clearly nothing, you can do to save yourself except hope that a Bug Catcher trips on your face and spots you. If you think it’s a good journey and are expecting the end to come soon enthusiastically, then you’ve still go some time, you are standing right outside the entrance! Run back out before anything else, I tell you.

To sum it up, getting lost over here is pretty easy. Unfortunately, specifics are not yet recovered from the three lost research teams, and all twenty others say they could not find much, due to the unfortunate haste in which they reached the conclusion of their research. Thus, I’m forced to speak from experience.

What can you do, in fact, to prevent such lost expeditions from happening?

If you’re coming from Viridian City: go through with at least three level 10 Pokémon, preferably Fire, Rock, and Flying types. Make sure that you have plenty of Antidotes and enough food to help yourself for three days. Be warned, though: look after your backpack carefully. A lock on the food containers is very much recommended.

If you came falling from the sky: you have a very strong head. Use it to bash on trees until you faint and a Bug Catcher wakes you up, instant way home. Do it with caution, any sort of disturbance on any Kakuna hanging on the tree will result in their evolution, in which case you will have more incentive to run faster than two times the speed of sound.

If you’re coming from Pewter City: ask Brock’s help on lending a Geodude from Mt. Moon. Under no circumstance should you go in there without training your Pokémon to level 10. You can also act immature and cry until some poor bloke half-heartedly ferries you over to the other side of the forest. Alternatively, you can go through the other side of Kanto over to Cinnabar Island via Fuchsia City via Celadon City via Saffron City via Cerulean City via Mt. Moon. From there you can reach Viridian City via Pallet Town. Risks: Victim of Zubat in Mt. Moon, thirsty guards, sea-sickness.

If you’re sure you didn’t come here from anywhere: you probably came falling from the sky, but if not (you may test by banging your head) then you must have come here some long time ago and become amnesiac through shock. Viridian Forest is not very big, so panic! Someone might hear you and save you. If that didn’t work, then train your Pokémon (if you have some) or helplessly shout until a Bug Catcher trips on you.

If you are a regular visitor to this place: good one! You know the tricks you can use to pass the forest. You don’t need any more help, proceed to gift this guide if you find any person with a crazy hairstyle and bad hygiene. That is, of course, unless you are helplessly trying to cross it. If that’s the case I recommend one of the above ways to cross it depending on your position.

Just remember, if any crazy looking boy stops you with haste and demands you battle him, shove him off and run. Run like the wind. Encourage him to race with you if he wants to run off too.
